Anatomical paper art

I came across this stellar art series when I was surfing streetanatomy.com and couldn't help but re-post it. There is about anatomical art that gets my geek flag waving! The human body is incredibly beautiful and I love it when someone captures it well in a work of art. Some people think it's creepy but I've been called worse... by my own kids.

The artist is Lisa Nilsson and you can see some of her work at the Boston University Art Gallery show "Teaching the Body". Believe it or not, these pieces are made from a bunch of tiny rolled up bits of paper.

enjoy your dessert the 'natural' way

Ever want to eat your dessert on plate that looks like a testicle? Well, you're in luck! Medical illustrator Emily Evans designed these plates to look like histological samples of different body tissues. Enjoy your flan on testicle, liver, thyroid and esophagus.

Don't mind if I do! Get em here.

Best resume ever

I wonder if I could pull something like this off on my CV and get away with it. What do you think? Awesome or cheesy?

The knitted brain

Today is the first day I've ever considered taking up knitting and it's all thanks to this picture.

I can imagine myself sitting with a bunch of old bats talking about our hemorrhoids and adult diapers while we knit intricate models of the female reproductive system or lower limb vascular trees. It would be a hoot.

I like a little meat on my ladies

If you've got muscles, you might as well show them. I think my wife could don this swimsuit with class. For $90 or so, your lady can own one too.

Your brain is bloody awesome

Pin It Proving that not only zombies get excited about brains, the Welllcome Collection in London, England is showcasing a beautiful exhibition on the human brain. Among many other things brain-related, visitors can see inside Albert Einstein's mind by viewing several slices of his brain as well as partake in tons of other gorgeous artwork on the subject.

The brain is the one thing that even the most brilliant minds in the world fail to fully comprehend so it is pretty exciting that museum visitors can have the opportunity to view the complexity and miracle of the human mind.

Medical Illustrations by Marcin Oleksak

Pin It It's unfortunate to me that more medical school textbooks and training tools don't utilize newer medical illustration such as these brilliant images by Marcin Oleksak. Check out his portfolio here.

The human body is a work of art

Pin It Medical artists produce some of the most amazing, under-appreciated art I have ever seen. Those of us in the medical profession have seen thousands of images penciled by Frank Netter or Henry Vandyke Carter (the illustrator of Gray's) but rarely do we see good modern examples of illustration or fine art in the name of medical science.

For those of us who think that the human body is a work of art, this is a huge disservice. Juan Gatti is an artist from Buenos Aires who has reignited the tradition of fine medical art. While not everyone would jump at the opportunity to hang one of his paintings on their family room wall next to the picture of their family, I personally think his work is genius. If you want to see more of his stuff, check him out.
